Birr Town earned victory 1 nil over top of the table Kinnegad in a hard fought encounter on Saturday morning. Kinnegad started strongly and had Birr on the back foot in the opening minutes. Birr shocked the league leaders after 8 minutes when Sean Turley stuck home a superb right footed shot after good work by Tadgh Sheahen. Kinnegad continued to control the game for the remainder of the first half, but a resolute Birr defence kept them at bay. More stout defending in the second half kept the score at 1 nil and in the end Birr earned the victory their tenacity deserved. Birr had outstanding performances from central defensive dou Matthew Ryan and Emmet O Brien through out and indeed all the team must be commended for the way they stuck to the task.
